Although 80% of enquiries come to luxury travel brand Tanzania Odyssey through online search, the company had barely dipped its toe in the water when it came to social media. Many competitors were making more sophisticated use of this resource, and their businesses were benefiting accordingly. Digital Potion was tasked with generating a lasting presence on Facebook, to boost awareness, promote brand loyalty and bring in new customers.

Solution

Digital Potion has advised Tanzania Odyssey on its search engine optimisation and digital strategy for many years. Through natural search techniques, we have pushed it to the number one slot for relevant queries on Google and other search engines. So, when the company decided to look seriously at social media, it came straight to us for support.

Our strategy centred on the creation of a corporate fan page on Facebook, providing a direct two-way link between Tanzania Odyssey and its existing and potential customers. We took advantage of new Facebook application features, to ensure that the fan page provided an engaging, interesting, yet non-intrusive experience.

The key to galvanising initial awareness and reach was to use a Facebook competition, which harnessed the latest Facebook Connect technology and ensured that the page launched with a bang.

Outcome

Our work has directly increased sales and raised overall awareness of the Tanzania Odyssey brand, establishing a digital reach that goes far beyond its core website and email marketing.

The initial launch competition proved cost-effective and extremely successful. It broadened Tanzania Odyssey’s marketing options and provided it with new routes to reach segmented customer groups.
